House of the Week: Sjøstrand

It is getting closer to the summer equinox when the days are getting longer and nighttime comes later and later. I can’t help but think of the land of the midnight sun at this time of year. There’s something about it still being light when dinner is done that makes the creative juices flow. In honor of that, I’ve decided to return to Norway for our House of the Week. Nesoddtangen is a village in Akershus, Norway. It’s located only four miles south of Oslo, but by car is almost an hour’s drive from the capital. This is because it is on the northern tip of the Nesodden peninsula that sticks out into Oslo Fjord and separates it from Bunne Fjord. Due to the short distance between Nesoddtangen and the center of Oslo, more than 90% of Nesoddtangen’s population works in Oslo and commutes via passenger ferry. Nesoddtangen is also home to musician Sondre Lerche. You can think of him as Norway’s Damien Rice, but with a pinch of Weezer’s River Cuomo. Here’s the first song of his I ever heard:

Our House of the Week is on a secluded bit of land that faces west towards the Kavringen pier and the island of Ildjernet. Perched high along the shore with steps down to the water, the property boasts direct access to the water and elevated views of the fjord. And all this for the paltry sum of 9.15 million krone…or 1.14 million US dollars.
